A Recommended Read … or “Reid” …

I just wanted to post a quick Thursday note to offer up an enthusiastic book recommendation … of a book that is currently available for a steal in eBook form.

Year Zero is Rob Reid’s first novel, and it’s pretty great … and it’s available for the next few days for 99-cents, as he outlined in his official Rob Reid blog. For those that are unaware, Rob is an L.A.-based author and entrepreneur, and the founder of Listen.com/Rhapsody, the first online music service to get full-catalog licenses from all the major music labels and one of the top online music services. A couple years ago, Rob also delivered a TED talk on “Copyright Math,” which has become quite the sensation in the music world and explains some of the myriad ways the industry has changed at the hands of rampant online piracy. My business partner Rick and I also got to put together an interview with him for the Musician Coaching blog just prior to the book’s release in summer 2012, and he has graciously kept in touch to tell us about what he’s been up to (including offering up info about this limited-time book offer).

Year Zero is a comedic science fiction story set mainly in present-day New York City about a society of highly-advanced aliens who are so enamored of American pop music that they accidentally commit the biggest copyright infraction of all time, thereby bankrupting the entire universe.

As a side note, the audio book version was read by the wonderful John Hodgman and got rave reviews, so that’s worth getting your hands on, too!

The 99-cent deal is only on for a limited time, so get it while it’s hot …
